How does sonarID identify VIP customers?
sonarID enriches every Shopify order in the background by cross-referencing the customer's email address, name, and available profile signals against public professional and social data sources. We build a profile for each customer and calculate a VIP score based on the signals we find. If the score crosses our confidence threshold, we flag them as a VIP and send a Slack alert.
What types of VIPs does sonarID detect?
Six categories: Influencers (10K+ LinkedIn or Twitter followers), Founders & Executives (CEOs, co-founders, C-suite), Investors (VCs, angels, fund partners), Press & Media (journalists, editors, podcast hosts), Creators (YouTubers, Substack writers, independent podcasters), and Celebrities & Public Figures (athletes, entertainers, politicians).
What signals does sonarID use to score a customer as a VIP?
We evaluate social reach (follower counts on LinkedIn and Twitter/X), job title and company (founder, CEO, VC, journalist), creator status (YouTuber, podcast host, newsletter writer), press affiliation, investment background, and notable credentials like Forbes 30 Under 30, YC alum, or FAANG experience. These signals are combined into a single VIP score.
How accurate is the VIP identification?
We prioritize precision over recall — a false positive is worse than a missed match. We only send alerts on high-confidence matches. Our goal is that every alert you receive is worth acting on.
Does sonarID enrich every order, or only some?
Every order placed in your connected Shopify store triggers an enrichment job automatically. There is no filtering, sampling, or manual trigger required. If the customer doesn't meet our VIP threshold, they're stored in your dashboard as a non-VIP order with no alert sent.
What happens if sonarID can't find a profile for a customer?
If we can't find a confident match, we record the order but don't send a Slack alert. You won't be notified of unknown customers — only confirmed VIPs. You can view all orders and their enrichment status in your dashboard.
Setup & Integration
How do I install sonarID?
Find sonarID in the Shopify App Store and click Install. Grant the required permissions (order read access). Connect your Slack workspace and choose a notification channel. sonarID begins enriching new orders immediately. Optionally run enrichment on your order history. Setup takes under five minutes for most merchants.
Does sonarID work with all Shopify plans?
Yes. sonarID works with all Shopify plans: Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus. There are no Shopify plan restrictions.
Can I enrich my existing customer history?
Yes. After connecting your store, sonarID offers an option to run enrichment on your historical order data. Depending on order volume, this can take a few minutes to a few hours. Most merchants discover 20–40 notable customers in their existing database during initial enrichment.
Can I send alerts to multiple Slack channels?
Currently sonarID sends alerts to a single designated Slack channel. Multi-channel support is on the roadmap. In the meantime, you can use Slack's own workflows to forward specific alert types to additional channels.
Enrichment & Data
How quickly does enrichment happen for new orders?
New orders are enriched in real time — typically within 2–5 seconds of the order being placed in Shopify. If a VIP is detected, the Slack alert fires immediately after enrichment completes.
What data sources does sonarID use?
sonarID uses public professional and social data sources, including LinkedIn public profiles, Twitter/X public accounts, and publicly available professional directories. We do not access private, protected, or gated data. We do not use data that customers have not made publicly available.
Why might a known VIP not be flagged?
A few reasons: the customer used a personal email not linked to their professional identity, their public profile doesn't meet our signal thresholds (e.g., follower count below 10K), or our data sources haven't indexed that person yet. You can manually tag any customer as a VIP in the dashboard.
Alerts & Notifications
What information is included in a Slack alert?
Each alert includes the customer's name and order value, VIP category (e.g., Influencer, Founder, Investor), key signals that triggered the match (e.g., '285K Twitter followers', 'CEO at Acme Corp'), social reach summary, and a direct link to their order in your Shopify admin.
Can I customize which VIP categories trigger alerts?
Yes. In your sonarID settings, you can choose which VIP categories send Slack alerts. For example, if you only want alerts for investors and press, you can disable influencer and founder alerts.
Can I adjust the VIP score threshold?
Yes. You can raise or lower the confidence threshold in settings. A higher threshold means fewer alerts but higher confidence. A lower threshold means more alerts but some may be weaker matches. The default is calibrated to maximize precision.
Pricing & Plans
What plans does sonarID offer?
Three plans: Launch ($99/mo, 5,000 customers/month, 1 store), Growth ($249/mo, 25,000 customers/month, 3 stores), and Scale ($499/mo, 100,000 customers/month, 10 stores). All plans include real-time Slack alerts, full VIP scoring, automatic order enrichment, and historical enrichment.
What counts as a 'customer' for usage purposes?
Each unique customer email enriched counts toward your monthly limit — not each order. If the same customer places three orders in a month, they count as one enrichment. Usage resets on your billing anniversary date each month.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. We offer a 7-day free trial on all plans. No credit card required to start. You can enrich up to 500 customers during the trial.
Can I change plans at any time?
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time from your Shopify admin. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the start of the next billing cycle.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel by uninstalling sonarID from your Shopify admin. There are no cancellation fees and no lock-in periods. If you cancel mid-cycle, you retain access until the end of the billing period.
Privacy & Security
Is my customer data secure?
Yes. We use AES-256 encryption for all data at rest and in transit, are SOC 2 Type II certified, and are GDPR and CCPA compliant. Customer data is processed in isolated environments. We never sell, share, or transfer customer data to third parties. All data can be deleted on request.
Is sonarID GDPR compliant?
Yes. sonarID is fully GDPR compliant. We act as a data processor on behalf of your business (the data controller). Merchants in the EU can request a signed Data Processing Agreement at any time.
Does sonarID share my customer data with anyone?
No. We do not sell, rent, or share your customer data with any third parties. The only exception is external enrichment providers we use as processors — they are contractually bound to strict data handling requirements.
Troubleshooting
I installed sonarID but I'm not getting any Slack alerts. What do I check?
Check four things: (1) Go to Settings and confirm Slack is connected with a green status indicator. (2) Confirm you've selected a specific notification channel. (3) Check that you haven't accidentally disabled all VIP categories in notification settings. (4) Verify the sonarID bot has permission to post in your chosen Slack channel.
Why is a specific customer not being enriched?
Check the dashboard for that customer's order. If their status shows 'no match found,' we couldn't find a confident match for that email or name. Common causes: personal email address not linked to their professional identity, profile below threshold, or the person hasn't been indexed yet.
I uninstalled and reinstalled sonarID. Is my data still there?
Your enrichment data is stored in sonarID's system, not Shopify. If you reinstall and reconnect with the same store, your historical data will be restored. If more than 30 days have passed since uninstall, contact support to recover data.
